"Much of the Australian Alps has been burnt in recent years. Large swathes will never fully recover, especially areas of mountain ash. As I stood overlooking different valleys of the Victorian high country, I saw nothing but the distressing view of grey bleached trunks of burnt gums. Yet, across this particular patch, recovery was clearly evident. The green growth of new vegetation signalling the recovery that had been under way for a few years. It presented an interesting contrast between the remnants of the old and the emergence of the new." - Scott
