"In the Victorian high country for a week I spent this day exploring around Dinner Plain with the snow and fog coming and going all day. It made for capturing great wintery conditions amongst the snow gums. At times everything before me would be hidden and other times the fog would clear, revealing scenes like this before me. It's always nice to capture huts like this in their true alpine environment." - Scott
The old corrugated iron Country Roads Board (CRB) hut is one of a series of huts built by the CRB from the 1920's to provide shelter for travellers and CRB workers along the Alpine Road. The erection of these huts was made on the recommendation of Bill Spargo, the CRB superintendent at the time, and a pioneer of the region. CRB hut at Dinner Plain, was built around 1923-25 and is one of the best preserved CRB huts left in Victoria. The original dirt floor is now covered with timber. It is often covered in snow during winter. Other CRB huts existed along the Great Alpine Rd at Diamantina Corner, Whiskey Flat, Hotham Heights, Victoria River and Jim and Jack Creek, Blowhard and Boggy Creek, but some of these were destroyed by the 1939 bushfires.
