One of the best known landmarks in New South Wales, the rocky outcrop known as the Three Sisters is situated at Echo Point near Katoomba. It is situated within the Blue Mountains, an area of breathtaking views, rugged tablelands, sheer cliffs, deep inaccessible valleys and swamps teeming with life. There are at least two stories describing the circumstances of the sisters' origin according to Aboriginal legend, but common to each is that each pillar of rock represents one of three sisters from the Katoomba tribe entombed in stone.
